Plastics

ALTIBRIGHT™ products are platy, high aspect ratio talc replacement functional fillers and extenders designed for use in a variety of plastics such as nylon, polyurethane, polypropylene, PVC, polystyrene, phenolic, polyethylene (LDPE and HDPE), homopolymer, copolymer and thermoset polyesters. They possess a very high dry brightness ranging from 92-96 (depending on particle size), making it ideal for natural and color sensitive applications. Trinity’s high purity ores are hydrophobic, non-abrasive and contain low iron oxide levels, as well as low calcium levels for improved dimensional and UV stability. Pyrophyllite has many desired properties within the plastics industry, including its chemical inertness, high oil absorption, high specific heat, high electrical resistance and high mechanical strength. The platy structure provides a greasiness and smooth finish to the final product, and the chemical inertness prevents chemical reactions from occurring between materials. ALTIBRIGHT™ offers a high value alternative to imported materials where high brightness and high aspect ratio are critical.

Benefits include:

  • Excellent reinforcement properties
  • Enhanced corrosion resistance
  • Increased tensile strength
  • Wear and impact resistance
  • Increased thermal and creep resistance
  • Promotes nucleation and uniform pore structure in polystyrene foam
  • Reduces shrinkage in injection molding
  • Increases stiffness (flex modulus)
  • Improves dimensional and heat stability
  • Improves heat deflection

Engineered for a wide range of industrial applications including plastics in automotive, electronics, garden furniture, household appliances, pipes, recycled plastics, and wood plastic composites.

Fiberglass

Pyrophyllite is a key component in commercial production of E-Glass fibers, which enables the elimination of sand in the batch and improves batch-to-melt conversion efficiency and lowers conversion energy.

Plastics

Trinity offers a high brightness, high aspect ratio product that replaces talc as a reinforcing additive for strength.

Agriculture

Pyrophyllite’s presence in agriculture includes its use as an anti-caking agent and moisture barrier in feed pre-mixes, enhancing the flowability and effectiveness of agricultural products.

Ceramics

In ceramics, pyrophyllite is employed to manufacture high-temperature porcelain and whiteware, ensuring consistent and robust finished products in kiln firing processes.

Coatings

Pyrophyllite’s versatility extends to the paint and coatings industry, where it acts as an extender and corrosion-resistant pigment, enhancing the performance of coatings and paints.
