Fiberglass

ALTIFIL™ FG products are engineered aluminum silicate minerals with low iron and low alkali for the production of fiberglass. They are a source of both alumina and silica, replacing both kaolin clay and silica in the E-Glass process. They also offer an energy savings and yield increasing alternative to kaolin and sand, improves furnace operations, and represents significant cost savings and performance improvement. Due to the removal of sand in the batches, there is an improved batch-to-melt conversion efficiency and reduced energy conversion. They also provide good mechanical properties and low melting temperatures, and the chemical inertness of pyrophyllite ensures high chemical stability.

Features include:

  • Reduced LOI
  • Elimination of sand in batches
  • Reduces energy consumption
  • Improved batch-to-melt conversion efficiency

Fiberglass

Pyrophyllite is a key component in commercial production of E-Glass fibers, which enables the elimination of sand in the batch and improves batch-to-melt conversion efficiency and lowers conversion energy.

Plastics

Trinity offers a high brightness, high aspect ratio product that replaces talc as a reinforcing additive for strength.

Agriculture

Pyrophyllite’s presence in agriculture includes its use as an anti-caking agent and moisture barrier in feed pre-mixes, enhancing the flowability and effectiveness of agricultural products.

Ceramics

In ceramics, pyrophyllite is employed to manufacture high-temperature porcelain and whiteware, ensuring consistent and robust finished products in kiln firing processes.

Coatings

Pyrophyllite’s versatility extends to the paint and coatings industry, where it acts as an extender and corrosion-resistant pigment, enhancing the performance of coatings and paints.
